We are excited to report on the insightful discussions and presentations at the recent 4DJuniors+ Seminar Number 2. On March 25th, the 4DJuniors+ Board hosted its highly anticipated Seminar, featuring presentations by Maryangela Ohanu and Silke van Esch, interns within the project’s research teams. The seminar provided a platform for junior researchers within the 4DPICTURE project to show their ongoing work and delve into the ethical considerations shaping development of prognostic models in cancer research.
Maryangela Ohanu, an intern within WorkPackage 2 of the 4DPICTURE project, shared her research on the ethical implications inherent in the development of prognostic models. Drawing from her medical background, Maryangela illuminated the complexities within oncological care and emphasized the importance of ethical guidance in utilizing prognostic models effectively. Her research aims to highlight the impact of variable selection on patient well-being while advocating for responsible conduct in healthcare research and clinical practice.
In another enlightening presentation, Silke van Esch, an intern with WorkPackage 7 (embedded ethics), presented her ongoing research on integrating end-of-life scenarios into the 4D PICTURE MetroMap. Addressing the sensitive ethical challenges associated with depicting end-of-life scenarios, Silke emphasized the need for effective communication, relational autonomy, death education, and cultural sensitivity. Her research aims to provide valuable insights for developing ethically responsible approaches to representing end-of-life scenarios within oncological care.
The 4DJuniors+ Seminar underscored the importance of ethical considerations in advancing cancer research and highlighted the dedication of junior researchers within the 4DPICTURE project to addressing these crucial issues. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, the seminar contributes to the ongoing efforts to enhance patient care and outcomes in the field of oncology.
