On January 29, 2024, we proudly hosted the first 4D Juniors+ Seminar, immersing ourselves in the dynamic world of multidisciplinary cooperation within communication. The first topic was focused on academic writing in the various fields within the 4D consortium. Here’s a panoramic overview of the invigorating discussions that unfolded:

Prof. dr. Hester Lingsma, professor of Medical Decision Making in the department of Public Health in the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, unraveled the nuanced meanings of identical words across diverse research groups. Her profound insights shed light on the transformative power of multidisciplinary collaboration, urging us to embrace diverse perspectives and enrich our comprehension of intricate concepts.

Laura Hartman, an expert of Embedded Ethics from Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, emphasized the importance of continuous ethics support throughout the research journey. Her compelling presentation underscored that an ethical approach isn’t just about the “how” but prompts us to reflect on the profound question of “what should be the case” in our research endeavors—a guiding principle shaping the ethical compass of our work.

Within the multidisciplinary landscape, effective communication acts as a pivotal bridge, enabling us to “step out of our expertise bubble.” This discourse delved into the transformative impact of cross-disciplinary communication, fostering collaboration and sparking innovation.

The latter part of the seminar honed in on the art of crafting scientific literature. How adept are you at navigating the vast landscape of scientific journals and conferences to present your research work? Another engaging segment explored the skill of pinpointing the target audience for your research.

A heartfelt thank you to all participants who brought their insights to the 4D Juniors+ Seminar. Your rich experiences and diverse perspectives have elevated the dialogue. Let’s propel the spirit of multidisciplinary collaboration and knowledge sharing forward!
